The United States continues to actively participate in reducing tensions in the Middle East. At the moment, negotiations on a ceasefire in the Middle East are in their final stages. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington is negotiating with Egypt and Qatar to reach an agreement and avoid escalating the conflict.
According to the diplomat, further attacks only worsen the situation, creating instability and danger for all residents of the region. Blinken stressed the need to analyze the situation, recognize the risk of possible mistakes and take measures aimed at reducing tensions, not increasing them. Particular attention is paid to negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza.
Blinken expressed these thoughts after meeting with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles in Annapolis.
US President Joe Biden recently threatened to cut off aid to Israel and warned the country's prime minister against escalating the conflict due to the growing risk of a regional war. Media reports say the US is sending more ships and fighter jets to the Middle East due to threats from Iran. Washington is bracing for a possible response from Tehran to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
