Trophy's proven defense system has received updates that significantly expand its capabilities against various threats from above. The Israeli company Rafael presented a new version of the system that can better protect against air attacks. Trophy is now capable of detecting highly maneuverable FPV drones and mine-dropping drones. The system is designed to protect against anti-tank missiles and other weapons.

Trophy's main components include small radars and hard-kill missile launchers. Radars detect threats and launch missiles to destroy them. Recent updates to Trophy allow it to better defend against overhead threats, including drones and top-down anti-tank missiles. The IDF began using the Trophy system on Merkava tanks in 2009.

Following the Hamas terrorist attacks on southern Israel in October 2023, it became clear that Trophy had some limitations, especially when faced with threats from above. Hamas has used drones to attack Israeli tanks and defenses. Britain also uses Trophy protection for its Challenger 3 tanks.
