Gaza ceasefire talks have produced no concrete results, with neither Hamas nor Israel agreeing to compromises proposed by mediators. Reuters reports that Egyptian security sources have expressed doubts about the success of efforts to end the 10-month war.
A US official called the talks “constructive” and noted the willingness of all sides to reach a “final agreement.” However, no agreement has yet been reached on ending Israel's military campaign in Gaza or releasing hostages held by Hamas.
The mediators' proposed alternatives regarding the presence of Israeli troops in various corridors of the Gaza Strip were not accepted by the parties. Controversies also arose over the release of Palestinian hostages from Israeli prisons.
