Lebanon is bracing for a possible large-scale strike after Israel's security cabinet approved a response to a rocket attack from Lebanese territory that killed 12 teenagers and children on a soccer field in the Golan Heights on Saturday, France24 reported.
Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a “tough” response to the attack that killed children in the Golan Heights, as diplomats seek to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
Netanyahu visited the site of the Majdal Shams rocket attack, where 12 children were killed, and said: “The State of Israel will not remain indifferent. Our response will be severe.”
Israel and the United States blame the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement for a strike that killed children in the Golan Heights after the start of the Gaza war between Hamas and Israel.
Lebanon's Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said they were doing everything possible to prevent Israel's expected response. “Israel is planning a limited escalation and Hezbollah will respond in a limited way,” Bou Habib told Al-Jadeed.
