Israel is conducting operations in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army has retreated, media reports.

Israel on the evening of September 30, 2024 informed the United States that it was conducting limited operations on Hezbollah infrastructure near the border. The Israeli government also reported “a number of operations,” including ground operations, in Lebanon, Lebanese media reported. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Israel was carrying out operations targeting Hezbollah along the border.

According to Miller, the United States does not yet plan to evacuate American citizens from Lebanon, but is working with airlines to provide assistance. The Lebanese army reported withdrawing from observation posts on the southern border with Israel, moving to barracks in border villages. The data is also confirmed by Sky News, claiming that the Lebanese army is most likely retreating.

Eyewitness John Sparks noted that the situation points to a possible Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the coming hours. The Israeli military announced the closure of the military zone in the border communities of Metula, Misgav Am and Kfar Giladi after a new assessment of the situation, as confirmed by the head of the Northern Command, Major General Ori Gordin.
