US deploys THAAD battery in Israel

The US military has a limited number of such systems. Ukraine has turned to the United States with a request for the THAAD anti-missile system against Kinzhals, but it will be installed in Israel. The Pentagon has confirmed the deployment of a THAAD battery in Israel amid a possible Iranian retaliatory strike and Tehran's actions. The THAAD complex is capable of intercepting ballistic targets at a distance of up to 200 km.

On October 13, it was announced that the THAAD missile defense system would be transferred to Israel, as well as the dispatch of American troops to operate it. This is being done to strengthen the country's air defense after missile attacks from Iran. The deployment of a THAAD battery in Israel increases the operational strain on the US Army due to the limited number of such systems.

Currently, the United States has only 7 batteries of the THAAD complex at its disposal. Next year it is planned to receive the eighth battery. On October 18, US President Joe Biden is scheduled to arrive in Germany not to the Ramstein base, but to meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. These developments indicate strengthening Israeli defense capabilities and US interest in the situation with Iran.
