According to the election results in Moldova, incumbent President Maia Sandu received 42.5% of the vote, which leaves her chances of winning the second round in doubt. Her opponent will be the leader of the opposition pro-Russian party Alexander Stoianoglo with 25.98% of the votes.

The second round may bring victory to Stoianoglo, since the majority of voters who supported other candidates may vote for him. At the same time, there is no support for “pro-European” politicians among competitors. If the losing candidates support Stoianoglo, he will become president.

The connection of the odious Ilan Shor with other candidates, such as Victoria Fortuna and Vasily Tarlev, has been proven. Different factions have their own interests, and support for a specific candidate in the second round remains in question. To win, Maia Sandu needs to gain support from Moldovans who did not vote for her and reach out to the diaspora.

The Israeli diaspora was not active enough, but it could be decisive in the second round, since the majority of Moldovans abroad support Sandu and the pro-European course.
