Editor-in-Chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group Margarita Simonyan shared details of a conversation with the head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, which took place during breakfast at the BRICS summit. Abbas expressed his views on the situation in the Middle East, noting the lack of complaints against Jews, but expressing criticism of “Zionists” and “colonists.”
Mahmoud Abbas emphasized in a conversation with Simonyan that the main issues for Palestine are related to American policy, believing that US support is the root of the problems. Such statements are popular among supporters of the myth of Israeli “colonization” of Arab lands and are met with negative perception as disguised anti-Semitism.
It is interesting that the conversation between Mahmoud Abbas and Margarita Simonyan took place through an interpreter, despite the extensive education of the head of Palestine received in the USSR. Palestinian representatives expressed gratitude for the support from Russia, considering it as their duty.
