At least 93 people have died or disappeared after an Israeli airstrike on the town of Beit Lahiya, according to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry. The United States condemned the attack as horrific.
“The Israeli military said it received information that civilians were injured in the Beit Lahiya area on Tuesday. They also added that the details of the incident are being clarified,” the statement said.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the US is very concerned about the deaths of civilians in this case.
“This was a terrible incident with a terrible outcome,” he said.
Miller also noted that reports indicate that 20 children died as a result of the attack.
“The tragic cost to civilians after the latest strike is another reminder of the need to end this war,” the official said.
The Israeli army carried out a precision strike on the secret command and control center of Hamas terrorists in Gaza. The command center was located in a building that was previously the Salah al-Din school in Gaza City.
