Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he is removing Defense Minister Yoav Galant from his post. Netanyahu stressed that “there is a lack of necessary trust between him and Galant, especially during military operations.” The Prime Minister expressed confidence that “it is important for everyone to ensure the security of the country and achieve victory.”
Netanyahu stressed that during times of war, coordination between the prime minister and the defense minister is especially important. Differences in the war strategy between them led to the decision to resign Galant. Foreign Minister Israel Katz will temporarily assume transitional duties as defense minister until a new candidate is appointed to the position.
Reactions Israeli politicians on the dismissal of Defense Minister Galant:
Ben Gvir: “With Gallant still deeply locked into this concept, it is impossible to achieve an absolute victory and the Prime Minister was right to remove him from office.”
Chairman of the Opposition Yair Lapid: “An act of madness! Netanyahu is selling the security of Israel and the IDF for shameful political survival. I call on all Zionist patriots to take to the streets tonight in protest.”
Avigdor Lieberman: “Banana republic. Everything is created to satisfy shameful political needs. If the Minister of Defense can be replaced in the midst of a war, then a Prime Minister who has not fulfilled his duty and neglected the security of the state can be replaced – and, of course, a state commission of inquiry can be created.”
Minister of Communications Karai: “Galant failed to rise to the heroic spirit of our brave warriors demanding victory. Now we can say with confidence – together until absolute victory with God’s help.”

Reaction on the dismissal of Yoav Galant in the Arab world:
Hamas-affiliated analyst Yassin Az al-Din: “Galant is a man of America and the Israeli army. Katz is a devoted follower of Netanyahu, who plays with him like a toy. Netanyahu appears to have taken advantage of the US elections to make this move. Opposition leaders are calling for protests against the dismissal, Americans are furious. This is another round of internal conflict in Israel.”
Pro-Iranian journalist from Yemen Abd al-Qudus al-Shahari: “Is this the beginning of the end for Netanyahu?”
Lebanese pro-Hezbollah analyst Majid Eid: “No one can surpass Galant in cruelty, so it doesn’t matter who takes his place. Two states or not, they only understand the language of resistance and the force that will destroy their plans.”
In Cairo, Egyptian journalist Ahmed al-Ashkar said the decision to fire Gallant confirms Netanyahu's confidence that Biden will be a “lame duck” before January 20. Galant was fired after insisting on enlisting the ultra-Orthodox who refused to serve in the army.”
Senior Hamas representative abroad Sami Abu Zuhri: “Netanyahu fired his army minister, Yoav Galant, who boasted that he would destroy Hamas. Today we tell them: Galant is no more, but Hamas remains and will remain with the help of Allah.”
In Riyadh, Saudi journalist Suleiman al-Akili: “Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant, which may indicate that he is preparing for a long war in the region.”
