THAAD systems provide interception of intercontinental missiles, including the RS-26 Rubezh

Journalists said that the Patriot air defense system will not be able to intercept Russian RS-26 Rubezh missiles because of its purpose to combat short-range missiles.

Ukrainian experts warned that only American THAAD systems are capable of shooting down Russian RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental missiles; they are used for the defense of Israel. The characteristics of these missiles have also been clarified.

THAADs were designed to intercept medium-range missiles and are used to destroy short-, medium- and intercontinental-range missiles.

THAADs are not equipped with warheads, their operation is based on “kinetic interception”. These systems can be used in the armies of the UAE, Israel, Romania and South Korea.

According to senior analyst Malcolm Davis, the Russian Federation warned the West with the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile in Ukraine, devoid of nuclear warheads. According to Defense Express, there is a possibility that the Russian Federation conducted an exercise to launch an RS-26 Rubezh missile into Ukraine.
