Syrian rebels take control of Aleppo as Assad's forces retreat

Opposition groups in Syria have launched an attack on Aleppo, the country's second largest city. Rebels from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham already control the streets of the city, as shown in videos published on the social network X.

During the three days of the offensive, the rebels took more than 50 villages in northwestern Syria. The British organization Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reports 218 militant deaths and 20 civilian casualties.

The area of ​​occupied territory in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo amounted to about 400 square kilometers, including the strategically important M5 highway connecting Aleppo and Damascus.

According to CNN and AP, the offensive began after the Syrian military attacked Idlib, where more than 30 civilians were killed. A “limited operation” was planned, but the attack continued after the Syrian army retreated.
