The crew of a merchant ship was evacuated after it was attacked off the coast of Yemen

The crew had to abandon the merchant ship after it was attacked about 194 km northwest of the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) said on Friday. The merchant ship poses a hazard to navigation in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The vessel is adrift without control and the crew has been evacuated to Djibouti by international coalition forces, according to a UKMTO statement posted on social media X.

UKMTO notes that an investigation into the incident is ongoing, but did not specify the name of the vessel or the method of attack. At the moment, there has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, but Western media remind that such attacks are most often carried out by Yemen's Houthi rebels.
