Legendary gymnast Agnes Keleti passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 103. She died in Budapest after battling pneumonia. Keleti was Hungary's oldest Olympic champion, winning 10 medals in gymnastics, including five gold.
The former athlete began her sports career at age 4 and won her first national title at age 16. Jewish by nationality, she survived the Holocaust by hiding her identity and passing as a Christian. In 1944 she married gymnast Istvan Sarkan.
After the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, Keleti was granted political asylum in Australia due to Soviet troops in Hungary. In 1957, she returned to Israel, where she worked as a physical education instructor at Tel Aviv University.
