Australia canceled the hockey championship due to concerns over Israeli participation.

Australia refused to host the A-2 Division Hockey World Championship due to the danger of the participation of the Israeli team. The event was due to take place in Melbourne in April.

Hockey Australia officials said anti-Israel protests were growing in the city, fearing serious clashes or terrorist attacks during the competition. The police, however, deny such recommendations and the lack of information about possible terrorist attacks.

The teams of Australia, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Serbia, the Netherlands and Belgium were to take part in the tournament.
