According to information presented by the British newspaper Financial Times, the United States of America has expressed readiness to participate in ensuring the security of post-war Ukraine. This implies the transfer of reconnaissance data, air defense systems, and aviation to European military forces located in Ukraine.

This position of Washington has changed drastically, as in the spring, the White House excluded the possibility of providing direct assistance to Ukraine. Now, sources cited by FT claim that the US has agreed to provide data on the situation at the front and has also expressed readiness to provide air defense and aviation means.

Nevertheless, the publication indicates that Washington still refuses to send its own troops to Ukraine. Some representatives of the Trump administration, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, are not ready to give Kyiv any security guarantees.

Some European countries supporting Ukraine intend to send their troops to the country and have developed a multi-level security plan. The creation of a demilitarized zone along the front line is expected, which can be patrolled by neutral peacekeepers from a third country agreed upon by both Kyiv and Moscow. China was mentioned as a potential candidate.

Beyond this zone, experts see the need to build a strong defense — Ukrainian troops, trained and armed by NATO states, should become the basis of the defensive potential. Later, European military formations will join them.

The US can play a key role at this stage by providing support from the rear, using its intelligence and other technological capabilities. European analysts believe that such a model can deter possible new aggression from Russia and ensure the fulfillment of the peace agreement conditions.

Washington has learned that it can provide “strategic means” important for the successful operation of European missions. These means include intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems, as well as command structures and air defense systems, including Patriot batteries and auxiliary aviation.

Despite the lack of desire to send its own troops, the US will need to ensure a technological advantage that contributes to the effective operation of the European contingent.

Until recently, the Donald Trump administration was against any form of American participation in the post-war protection of Ukraine. However, after appeals from allies and further consultations, the White House changed its position, which, according to European officials, is a significant shift compared to the spring of this year.

The leading roles in forming the “coalition of the willing” are ready to be taken by the UK and France, sending their troops to Ukraine. The possibility of participation from four to five brigades of European military personnel is being discussed. The final composition of the coalition has not yet been determined, but it is expected that other European countries will also support the initiative.

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, confirmed the information presented by FT. He noted that each country in the coalition will contribute differently, creating an overall picture that combines military, political, and economic support. Yermak also pointed out the importance of the recent meeting between Zelensky, Trump, and European leaders, where mechanisms for the supply of American weapons for Ukraine’s defense were discussed.

“The US can provide the framework that makes the entire security and deterrence architecture operational,” Yermak concluded.
