The suspect in the murder of Verkhovna Rada deputy Andriy Parubiy has been detained. This was reported by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The incident occurred on the night of September 1, 2025, in the Khmelnytskyi region, as specified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine. At the moment, the identity of the detainee is not disclosed.
According to Zelensky, the detainee has already given initial testimony, but other details have not yet been made public. The head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhovsky, pointed to the existence of a “Russian trace” in this case.
The police also presented photographs taken during the detention of the suspect.
Andriy Parubiy, known as the former commandant of Euromaidan and speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from 2016 to 2019, tragically died on August 30 in Lviv. The attacker shot him at least eight times and soon fled the crime scene. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the murder was carefully planned, and the perpetrator tracked Parubiy’s movements.
