A criminal case has been initiated in the Russian Federation against a famous actress who holds an Israeli passport.

Aglaya Tarasova, a Russian actress with Israeli citizenship, may face three to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of one million rubles. This consequence is related to the discovery of an electronic cigarette cartridge with 0.38 grams of hashish upon her arrival from Israel.

Actress Under Investigation Due to Drugs

Investigative authorities in Rostov-on-Don have initiated a criminal case, qualifying the incident as drug smuggling, according to Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia. Tarasova was detained on August 28 at Domodedovo airport. This incident has heightened public and local media attention.

Court Proceedings

Recently, a preliminary hearing was held at the Domodedovo City Court to determine the preventive measure for the actress. Tarasova was brought to the courtroom, where she was offered to state her position. The actress’s defender presented his arguments to the court, claiming that Tarasova did not receive a summons for September 3, when she was supposed to appear at the police.

According to him, the actress was in the hospital at that time and was unable to come as summoned. The lawyer reported that she saw the notification to appear at the station too late. Tarasova also voluntarily handed over her Israeli passport to the investigator as evidence.

Court’s Conclusion

Tarasova requested a preventive measure from the court that was not related to restriction of freedom. She expressed hope that she could continue working on new projects and maintain contact with her family. The court granted the request and restricted her freedom to certain actions. The actress is prohibited from leaving her residence from 00:00 to 06:00, communicating with witnesses, and performing any actions except calling emergency services.

The actual content and quantity of drugs found with Tarasova cast doubt on the possibility of severe punishment. In Russian law, the size of 0.4 grams is considered “significant,” which should have effectively ensured the actress’s safety from harsher consequences.
