Position of the Egyptian Foreign Minister
On September 6, 2025, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty harshly characterized statements about the “voluntary” relocation of Palestinians as “nonsense.” The comment was made against the backdrop of Israel’s calls for residents of the Gaza Strip to leave their homes as Israeli forces continue their advance in the city.
Abdelatty stated that “creating conditions conducive to hunger serves the purpose of displacing residents from their land.” In his opinion, talking about voluntary relocation in this context is meaningless. These words were spoken at a press conference with UN Commissioner-General for Palestinian Refugees Philippe Lazzarini.
Israel’s Reaction to the Situation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expresses support for the idea of the possibility of voluntary departure of Palestinians. His office confirmed that he raised the issue “of the right of every person to choose their place of residence, especially in conditions of military conflict.”
On September 5, Netanyahu stated the necessity for other countries to accept Palestinians wishing to leave Gaza. This statement was accompanied by information about his conversation with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on the same day. The head of the Egyptian foreign policy department emphasized that “Israel should be blamed” for the delay in negotiations.
Israeli Military Operation in Gaza
For its part, the Israeli army reported that from August 29, the suspension of military actions will not apply to the city of Gaza, characterized as a “dangerous combat zone.” This statement underscores the increasing tension in the region, especially relevant against the backdrop of current escalations.
