Russian singer Alla Pugacheva spoke about the reasons for her departure from the country after the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. In an interview for the program “Say to Gordeeva,” the artist shared that she was effectively “expelled” from Russia following a public statement by her husband, showman Maxim Galkin, against military actions.

Leaving the Country

Pugacheva recalled how she did not want to leave Russia while her husband was abroad. She went to Israel for treatment, and from the moment she left, a wave of negative reaction hit her.

According to the singer, before her departure, no one thought about the consequences: “The fact is that Maxim was abroad, and I was at home. I had to go for treatment, and there was a doctor I needed.” Facing hostility towards her and Galkin, the singer pondered: “If they don’t like it, what to do?”

Authorities’ Reaction

Pugacheva noted that soon Sergey Kiriyenko came to talk to her, suggesting to calm down and claiming that everything was fine. However, two days later, Galkin was declared a foreign agent, which significantly changed the situation.

She recalls: “When the children went to school after that, they started to be trolled,” adding that they were called “children of spies.” This wave of negative emotions prompted Pugacheva to finally decide to leave.

Decision to Leave

The artist felt strong pain from what was happening: “I wrote, declare me a foreign agent too.” She expressed confusion about the suppression of opinions, even among intelligent people, and emphasized that different views should exist in the country.

Moral Choice

When asked if she and Galkin could have stayed on the sidelines, Pugacheva confidently replied: “I would not have remained silent.” According to her, conscience turns out to be more important than any fame or luxury.

Earlier, there was also discussion about Maxim Galkin and Alla Pugacheva’s desire to visit Kyiv. The artist’s personal opinion, as well as his decisions, remain subjects of discussion in society.
