Over the past few days, there have been numerous events requiring moral choices and decisions that cannot be changed. This is reminiscent of the classic trolley problem, where one must decide whether to intervene, saving some but killing others, or to stay aside and let fate decide.

Both approaches have the right to exist, but only with complete information. This is the goal: to provide all necessary information.

Recent cases of moral choice should be considered.

• The murder of Irina Zarutskaya in the USA, used to activate racial conflicts. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are trying to use the situation. Donald Trump demands the death penalty. A battle has erupted on social media between Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter.
• The murder of Charlie Kirk, a Trump ally, agitator, and critic of aid to Ukraine.
• Israel’s attack on the capital of Qatar — Doha, condemned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
• Escalation of reaction to Russia’s drone attack against Poland.
• Ban on tourist visas for Russian citizens in EU countries.

What is the reaction of Ukrainians to these events?

– Support for the maximum punishment for Zarutskaya’s killer;

– Satisfaction with the death of a critic of Ukrainian support;

– Condemnation of the MFA’s actions, as it is important to support Israel against the backdrop of aggression against Moscow;

– Reproaches towards Poland;

– Support for bans on everything for Russians.

Such rhetoric creates the illusion that the choice is based on the perception of justice. However, pragmatism and broader contexts of events, as well as their connection to national interests, are ignored.

Zarutskaya’s killer is viewed by the politicized part of American society in the context of racial identity, which is indifferent to most Ukrainians. In the USA, the phenomenon of racism is obvious, while in Ukraine it is not.

Attention should also be paid to the main publications of The New York Times, where the term “Black” is capitalized, and “white” is lowercase. The media agenda of the Democrats in the USA in the case of murder is formed similarly to how NATO reacted to other events.

Nevertheless, the mega-community focuses on the political component of the conflict between traditional Americans and ultra-liberal elites. This is evidenced by Charlie Kirk, who has already become the object of intrigue.

The key question is to determine interests: the desired includes:

– Forcing the punishment of the criminal;

– Bipartisan support for Ukraine from the USA;

– Highlighting the facts of information manipulation against Ukraine in the US digital space.

There is a need to seek understanding with the MAGA community and express condolences regarding Charlie Kirk, even with his opposition to Ukrainian interests. A maximalist approach should be avoided.

From the newspaper reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Qatar, it is worth noting that Netanyahu has always tried to maintain mutual understanding with Putin, receiving support for aviation operations in Syria.

Netanyahu will never take actions that could irritate Putin. In 2021, he even neglected Holocaust Remembrance Day to save an Israeli woman captured by Russia.

Qatar, unofficially, helped Ukraine. Supporting Israel against Qatar could negatively affect the international position.

The ban on tourist visas for Russians may be perceived as a step towards worsening conditions for enemies. But the question arises: what problem does this measure solve?

Yes, Russians will not be able to travel to Europe. Will this change their attitude towards Ukraine or Putin? If so, how? If not, is there any point in such actions?

There is uncertainty regarding the cooperation of mass media with Russian agents during operations. How will further agency be built?

So far, the decision to ban looks like a search for favorable opinion, but the question arises about the fair exchange of comfort for some Russians.

There is a lack of clear understanding of the goal, leading to decisions made solely for societal approval. First and foremost, it is necessary to clearly define what exactly needs to be achieved.
