Israeli Strike on Hamas and Drone Invasion
The recent Israeli strike on Hamas officials in Doha and the invasion of Russian drones into Polish airspace have tested U.S. President Donald Trump. These events have cast doubt on his claims that the international community respects the United States more than ever before, Bloomberg noted on September 11, 2025.
Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, commenting on the attack on Qatar, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East. At the same time, he chose not to condemn the invasion of Russian drones into Poland, noting that it “could have been a mistake.”
Trump’s Position and Its Consequences
Trump’s restrained reaction to the events sharply contrasts with his previous statements about the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully. He acknowledged that Russia’s war in Ukraine, which he intended to end immediately upon returning to power, turned out to be more complicated than he anticipated. Nevertheless, Trump continues to assert that President Putin is “looking for a deal.”
Elliott Abrams, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and a former senior official under Trump, emphasized that U.S. policy should be clearer. In his opinion, “this is not just a war between Russia and Ukraine.” He also pointed to the importance of clear actions against Hamas.
Reaction to the Israeli Attack
The Israeli attack on Qatar, according to the White House, was carried out without U.S. consent. This created awkwardness for Trump between two allies. The President expressed regret and promised that such a situation would not happen again. However, Netanyahu justified Israel’s actions as “completely independent.”
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister, stated that the strike “ended hopes” for the release of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas during the disarming attack on October 7, 2023.
U.S. Support for Israel
To confirm support for Israel, the White House called the incident an “opportunity for peace,” emphasizing unity with Netanyahu despite Trump’s dissatisfaction. The publication notes that such a lack of reaction could create an image of Trump giving a “green light” against U.S. interests. Israel’s strikes signaled an opportunity for Kyiv, where there are no “rules,” only “opportunities.”
Drone Invasion and Tensions in Europe
Russia’s Ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, expressed concerns during a Security Council meeting that Washington’s “quiet diplomacy” has not yielded results and poses new risks. Trump, ignoring traditional political norms, directly interacts with Putin, which draws criticism from allies.
Instead of reaching peaceful agreements, Russia continued to carry out destructive strikes on Ukraine. The drone incident threatens stability in Europe, as many allies are becoming nervous that Trump is not using the full leverage of U.S. influence on Putin.
Danger of Further Escalation
Gabrielius Landsbergis, former Lithuanian Foreign Minister, commented on the actions of the Russian side. He points to the need for a firm NATO response; otherwise, such provocations will become the norm, opening new horizons for Putin’s aggression.
