The Ministry of Justice of Russia updated the “foreign agents” registry on September 12, 2025, which included four new individuals. Among them is 86-year-old writer Eduard Topol, who has been living in Israel since 2017.
New Faces in the “Foreign Agents” Registry
In addition to Topol, the updated list includes the deputy editor of the portal Agentura.ru Irina Borogan, journalist and blogger Sergey Kuropov, as well as Kostroma activist and feminist Irina Shumilova. Furthermore, the satirical YouTube project “Deceived Russian” was added to the registry.
Accusations Against New Figures
The Ministry of Justice of Russia accuses those listed of spreading false information about the actions of Russian authorities and expressing protest against Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.
- Writer Eduard Topol has long been in the spotlight.
- Irina Borogan is actively engaged in journalism and shares her opinion on events in the country.
- Sergey Kuropov, as a blogger, expresses alternative viewpoints on events.
- Irina Shumilova, being a feminist, raises important social issues.
These changes in the registry highlight the ongoing trend of harsh criticism and persecution of activists and independent journalists in Russia. Each new figure receives special attention due to their expressed opinions and positions.
