In recent days, an Iranian deputy announced the successful testing of one of the “most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles.” This statement followed President Masoud Pezeshkian’s promise that Iran will withstand international sanctions and possible external attacks.

Reports of missile launches came shortly before this, when the opposition channel Iran International published videos and photos of bright objects in the sky over Tehran and several other cities. The discussion of Iranian missile tests generated numerous comments on social media, where users shared images of bright trails in the night sky, including footage from the TV channel, which labeled the event as a “successful test of an advanced missile from Semnan.”

Successful Missile Tests

Several members of parliament commented on the situation. Mohsen Zanganeh reminded that “two nights ago we tested one of the most advanced missiles, which had not been tested before, and it was successful.” He also noted that even in the current environment, intercontinental missile safety tests are being conducted.

It is reported that the semi-official news agency Fars emphasizes that the luminous object was seen in several provinces, including Gilan and Semnan. Local officials described the incident as testing internal systems.

Weather and Political Events

In recent months, Iran has experienced numerous unexplained incidents, including explosions and fires at sensitive sites. Opposition channels actively cover these events, while state media usually prefer to avoid details. Moreover, Iran International reported on potential air defense system activity near Karaj, but authorities did not comment on the information.

Sanctions and Their Consequences

According to Pezeshkian, Iran will be able to overcome the consequences of sanctions after the UN Security Council rejected a resolution proposing the complete lifting of restrictions. The UK, France, and Germany have taken steps to restore measures using the “snapback” mechanism, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iran on the International Stage

“Of course, with the help of snapback, they block our path, but only human minds open,” the president noted. He added that the adversary will not be able to stop Iran, as “those who built nuclear facilities in Natanz or Fordow will be able to recreate them.” Furthermore, the report on the conducted missile tests coincided with Europe’s decision, made on August 28, launching a 30-day process to restore sanctions, which could conclude on September 27. If the measures are implemented, embargoes on arms supplies and missile development may be reintroduced, as well as asset freezes and travel restrictions.

Criticism from Russia, a close ally of Iran, concerned the new European appeal, which was called “provocative and illegal.” With the start of the war in Ukraine, ties between Moscow and Tehran have significantly strengthened: for example, in January, the countries signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Russia also condemned US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June.
