In their opinion, the parade is not a proper demonstration of military power but merely a tool for strengthening Vučić’s power vertical. Critics argue that such events distract the population from more pressing issues facing the country.

It should be noted that students from several universities and opposition supporters, who actively conducted anti-government actions amid growing discontent, were not allowed to attend the parade.

The parade takes place against the backdrop of a wave of protests that began after the tragedy on November 1, 2024, when part of the roof of the railway station collapsed, claiming the lives of 16 people. Discontent is fueled by unanswered questions about those responsible for the incident, which continuously stirs passions in society.

• On August 1, 2025, it became known about the arrest of six former officials whose actions became the subject of an investigation related to financial machinations during the railway reconstruction, which led to the roof collapse.
• On August 15, anti-government protests took place, during which participants damaged the office of the ruling party – this clearly demonstrates the level of citizens’ discontent.
