In Ukraine, a secret network of batteries has been developed to store electricity during shelling.

When energy becomes a weapon, the ability to preserve it is also a form of defense. Ukraine has taken a step that is not just technical but symbolic: a new network of American-made batteries transforms a vulnerable energy system into a flexible, resilient structure. In wartime conditions, the stability of light is already a victory.

Energy that protects

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the total capacity of the new installations is 200 megawatts — enough to supply electricity to about 600,000 homes for two hours.
According to Vadim Utkin, head of the energy storage division at DTEK, such batteries allow the restoration of energy supply after shelling and prevent large-scale blackouts.

The technology creates a reserve of time and power — a critical resource during attacks. When a line is damaged, the network does not collapse instantly: the system picks up the load, like a temporary generator of civilization.

Geography of silence: batteries under protection

Six energy “parks” are located in Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region. These are rows of white blocks about 2.5 meters high, located in secret places. Their locations are hidden to minimize the risk of strikes — silence and anonymity here become a new form of protection.

Each module is a self-sufficient unit that can be replaced without stopping the entire system. Such modularity is the key to resilience. Even if one element is disabled, the others continue to provide energy, maintaining balance.

American technology, Ukrainian resilience

The project began in July 2025. The company DTEK, together with the American Fluence, launched the installation of 698 battery modules, with a total cost of 140 million dollars.

For Ukraine, this is not just an investment in energy, but in the future.
The system is designed to work precisely when it is needed most — in winter, when infrastructure shelling becomes part of routine news, and every megawatt turns into a line of defense.
