On October 20, 2025, the Kremlin expressed its intention to strengthen ties with Iran. Moscow condemned the recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which were aimed at preventing the creation of nuclear weapons. Iran, in turn, rejects accusations of developing a nuclear arsenal.
Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, emphasized Russia’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iran. He noted that relations between the countries are developing dynamically despite international pressure.
Diplomatic Maneuvers
European countries, according to Peskov, are exerting excessive pressure on Iran regarding the nuclear program. The situation, as he expressed, remains complex.
On Monday, a meeting is expected between the Russian envoy and Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. This event occurs shortly after Larijani’s visit to Moscow, where he delivered a message from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Strategic Partnership
In January, Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian signed an agreement on strategic partnership. Although the document lacks provisions for mutual defense, it emphasizes the legitimacy of supplying military equipment to Iran. In response, Iran provided Russia with drones for use in the conflict in Ukraine.
