Meeting in Busan: Diplomacy and Trade
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping held talks in Busan, South Korea. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes, exceeding the planned time. Issues of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and trade relations were discussed.
Trump noted that the parties agreed on cooperation to achieve results in Ukraine.

Trade Concessions and Prospects
The US is reducing tariffs for China from 20% to 10%, which will lower the overall rate from 57% to 47%. In response, China will allow the export of rare earth elements and begin purchasing American soybeans. Trump rated the meeting “12 out of 10,” adding that a trade agreement could be signed “quite soon.”
Xi Jinping praised Trump’s mediation in establishing peace in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He emphasized the importance of stable development of Sino-American relations.
Nuclear Tests and International Reaction
On the eve of the meeting, Trump instructed the Pentagon to begin nuclear weapons testing. The last such tests by the US were conducted in 1992. Daryl Kimball, director of the Arms Control Association, believes that resuming tests will take at least 36 months.
At this time, Russia successfully tested the underwater nuclear-powered device “Poseidon.” The Chinese agency Xinhua did not mention Ukraine in its reports on the meeting, which analyst Vadim Denisenko called expected.
Conclusion
After the meeting, Trump headed to Washington, while Xi continued participating in the APEC summit. Trade and diplomacy issues remain in focus, opening new opportunities for cooperation. The interaction of the two powers is taking on new forms, promising changes on the world stage.
