The International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor has said there are grounds to issue arrest warrants against Israel's prime minister and defence minister. The UK government has dropped its objections to the move. Unlike critics, the US president has seen the evidence and knows what it is about, but the prosecution's case is confidential and has not been made public.

The new British government announced after the election that it would not challenge the ICC's jurisdiction over Israeli citizens. In May, the ICC prosecutor filed a request for arrest warrants against Hamas leaders. A pro-Israel group of British lawyers is threatening to file a complaint against the prosecutor for breaching professional standards.

Karim Khan has called on the ICC judges to rule on whether to consider his request for arrest warrants. Whether they will decide remains open, and the court has yet to rule on the matter.
