The UN Security Council has decided to extend the peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights for six months due to tensions and fears of conflict between Syria and Israel.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was overthrown, after which Israeli troops temporarily entered the demilitarized zone patrolled by UN forces. Israeli officials described the weapons as a temporary measure, without specifying a time frame for the withdrawal.
The Security Council resolution emphasized the importance of compliance with the 1974 Disengagement of Troops Agreement, expressing concern about the possible increase in tensions and the threat to civilians and UN personnel.
Israel and Syria are obliged not to be present in the disengagement zone in order to avoid new outbreaks of violence and ensure the safety of citizens.
