US President Joe Biden said the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli leaders had sparked outrage. He stressed that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
Netanyahu is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between October 8, 2023 and May 20, 2024. The Pre-Trial Chamber finds that Netanyahu and Galant deliberately deprived the civilian population of Gaza of items necessary for survival, including food, water, medicine, medical supplies, fuel and electricity.
Members of the Israeli government accused the court in The Hague of anti-Semitism after the arrest warrants were issued.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that ICC arrest warrants for Israeli politicians are binding on EU countries:
“This is a decision of an international court that must be respected and implemented. “
