Denmark is showing interest in the possibility of recognizing Palestine, but this is difficult without clear conditions. This was stated by the country’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, whose words are supported by the media resource Euractive.
Frederiksen noted that Denmark does not reject the idea of recognizing Palestine. On the contrary, the republic has long supported this aspiration. However, as the politician emphasized, an important condition remains the presence of democracy in the future Palestinian state.
The division into two states must be accompanied by a solution that corresponds to the right goal. Denmark intends to use its presidency in the European Union to put pressure on Israel to promote this issue. “It will not be easy, but we will do everything possible,” she added.
According to information, last Sunday in Copenhagen, more than 10,000 people protested against the war in the Gaza Strip, calling on the Danish government to recognize the Palestinian state.
In an interview published on August 16 in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, Frederiksen mentioned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu represents a problem, and his government “crosses boundaries.”
