Gaza ceasefire talks have been suspended until next week as negotiators try to agree on an end to fighting between Israel and Hamas, which the US and EU have designated as a terrorist organisation, and the release of hostages, mediators said on August 16.

The United States, Qatar and Egypt said Washington had presented a new proposal building on previous agreements, eliminating differences between the parties to move forward with a deal quickly.

“According to Reuters, an Israeli official said his delegation was returning home from Doha, Qatar, and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on August 19.
