Rumours of a possible evacuation from Lebanon have given a false sense of security to German citizens in the country. A German Foreign Ministry spokesman today, August 7, urged them to leave Lebanon immediately, Reuters reports.
“It's time to leave Lebanon,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman said, urging citizens to organize their exit, even if it means traveling through Turkey or facing high airfare.
A German Defense Ministry spokesman declined to give details about preparations for a possible evacuation if the conflict in the Middle East intensifies.
Earlier, it was announced that the governments of Britain, Germany and the United States had also urged their citizens to leave Lebanon or avoid travelling there due to threats from Israel to retaliate for Hezbollah attacks.
