After squabbling over the new Hamas leader following the death of Ismail Haniyeh, an interim leader, Mohammad Ismail, was appointed. Mohammad Ismail is renowned for his influence, although he prefers to remain in the shadows and rarely makes public statements. Born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, he rose to prominence within Hamas, handling economic matters and the organization's finances.
Hamas plans to hold elections in the future to determine a permanent head of the politburo who will lead the organization in the future.
