Overnight, Hezbollah confirmed the death of the founder and commander of the elite Radwan unit, Ibrahim Aqil, in an IDF strike in Dahya and named 12 more prominent militants in the organization, including the number two in the military hierarchy after Aqil, Ahmed Muhmud Wahbe.
According to Lebanese media, Wahbe, 59, commanded the elite Radwan unit from the start of the current war with Israel (what Arabs call the “Al-Aqsa Flood” and Israel the “Iron Swords”) until early 2024. He took over Hezbollah's central army unit after the death of Wisam Tawil.
Ahmed Wahbe was one of the commanders of the Hezbollah unit that ambushed the special forces of the “Shayetet 13” in August 1997 in southern Lebanon. Twelve Israeli soldiers under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Yossi Kurakin were killed.
