On October 9, 2024, Hezbollah said its fighters had driven back advancing Israeli troops in clashes along the border. According to Reuters, Hezbollah fired volleys of rockets at Israeli troops near the village of Labbouneh in the western border area and managed to push them back. It was also reported that sirens continued to sound in northern Israel today, including the major port city of Haifa, after shelling from Lebanon.
Israel responded with airstrikes, including on targets far from the border combat zone. Lebanon's health ministry said four people were killed and 10 injured in the attack on the town of Wardania, which is north of the coastal city of Saida.
Israel launched a ground invasion of Lebanon to clear southern Lebanon of Hezbollah militants and positions in order to restore peace in the north of the country and allow residents to return. It was also noted that Israel had deployed thousands of additional troops across the border in Lebanon, highlighting its readiness to expand its ground offensive against Hezbollah in the southwest of the country.
