Estonia explained under what conditions force can be used against Russian fighters. Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated that the incident involving the violation of airspace on September 19, 2025, did not lead to any shootdowns because the “necessary conditions were not met.”
This was reported by the TV channel “ERR.”
Conditions for the Use of Force
As Michal noted, there are clear criteria for the use of force. This time, Russian pilots were forced to leave Estonian airspace with the help of signals. However, they did not do so as quickly as they could have.
Malicious Intent or Operation?
Furthermore, the Prime Minister indicated that the prolonged presence of Russian aircraft in Estonian skies could be interpreted as an act of malicious intent unless considered a pre-planned operation.
War or Threat?
Polish President Karol Nawrocki, who has been in office for just a month, called for preparation for war in an interview with the German publication BILD. According to him, this is the only way to maintain peace amid growing threats.
Nawrocki expressed the opinion that Poland is experiencing one of the most dangerous periods since the Cold War. He emphasized the growing threat in the international environment and commented on recent attacks by Russian drones, stating that Moscow is behind them.
NATO’s Position and Maintaining Peace
The President of Poland is confident that such attacks on NATO countries will not be repeated, as the alliance will strengthen defensive measures and become more prepared for such threats.
Noting previous relations between the West and Russia, he stated that cooperation provided the Kremlin with economic resources to wage war against Ukraine.
Economic Sanctions as a Measure of Pressure
Nawrocki supported Donald Trump’s initiative for NATO countries to refuse the import of Russian oil. He emphasized that this concerns not only Hungary and Slovakia but also France, which buys Russian fuel through intermediaries in India.
He also noted that refusing to finance Moscow would be an important step toward establishing peace. In his opinion, maintaining current supplies means encouraging further aggression from Russia.
Sanctions as the Key to Conflict Resolution
Speaking about ways to resolve the conflict, Nawrocki stressed that sanctions and active measures proposed by Trump could force the Kremlin to stop the war and restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
