IDF soldiers began conducting targeted operations in southern Lebanon, using the experience gained during the fighting in the Gaza Strip. They came into direct conflict with Hezbollah militants. Elite airborne, armored and special forces units are taking part in this operation. Plans were approved and soldiers trained after being deployed to the north of the country.
According to the IDF press service, the 98th Division began limited local operations in southern Lebanon. The division's members, including paratroopers, special forces and the 7th Brigade, have been preparing for this action for weeks. Soldiers operate in the northern direction, applying the skills and experience gained from Gaza to combat operations in Lebanon.
Currently, IDF soldiers are engaged in intense fighting in southern Lebanon. An army spokesman said Hezbollah fighters are using the urban environment and population as a shield. The goal of the operation is to “cleanse” Hezbollah’s positions and infrastructure near the Israeli border so that the return of Israeli citizens to their homes becomes possible.
