Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry instructed Egyptian airlines to avoid Iranian airspace for three hours on Thursday following a request from Tehran, citing military exercises in Iran.
The ban on entry into Iranian airspace will be in effect from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., but no exact time was given. Iran's warning was in effect three hours earlier on Wednesday.
For now, the head of Tehran International Airport, Saeed Chalandari, has denied that there is a warning not to enter western Iranian airspace, but it is unclear whether this applies to the entire country.
On August 31, the leader of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in Tehran. The circumstances of his death are still unknown. Iran and Hamas blamed Israel, but Israel did not officially take responsibility.
