The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which includes ten countries, including Russia, China, Iran, and India, condemned the Israeli strikes on Iran in June during the “Lion People” operation. The international structure also “expressed a negative attitude” towards Israel’s actions, which led to “civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.”
The SCO called for an immediate ceasefire and “provision of necessary humanitarian aid for the region.”
The SCO summit concluded on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Tianjin, where Russian President Putin participated. He detailed his “views” on the situation in Ukraine, noting that, in his opinion, “Russia did not attack any country, but a coup occurred, which negatively affected Russian-speaking residents.”
Putin’s speech attracted the attention of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. On the last day of the summit, Xi presented the concept of a “new world order” with an emphasis on the importance of the Global South. He stressed the need for a “clear stance against hegemonism,” referring to the actions of the USA, with a call for a “true multilateral approach.”
The Chinese leader noted that the SCO could serve as a model for a new type of international relations and called for closer cooperation in various economic fields.
Separately, he highlighted that the developing security system, unlike the European or Euro-Atlantic one, “should truly reflect the interests of many states, ensuring a sustainable balance.” Additionally, there was talk about the need to strengthen interaction in areas such as energy, infrastructure, science, and technology.
This view was already raised by Putin. At the opening of the summit, he posed with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demonstrating the symbolism of unity and cooperation, holding hands.
