Israeli Airstrikes in Hodeidah
On September 29, 2024, in Hodeidah, Yemen, the Israeli armed forces carried out a series of airstrikes. The attack followed a warning about the need to evacuate the port.
According to Al Masirah TV, associated with the Houthis, 12 airstrikes were carried out, resulting in damage to the port docks. Reuters sources in the region confirmed that the strikes targeted three docks, recently restored after previous attacks by Israeli aviation.
Local residents reported that the attack lasted about 10 minutes. A statement from the IDF indicated that the Hodeidah port is used by the Houthis for transporting weapons delivered from Iran, aimed at attacks on Israel and its allies.
Defense Minister’s Comment
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced further reduction of the Houthis’ capabilities, emphasizing that any strike against Israel would result in serious consequences for the group. This only confirmed the determination of the Israeli authorities in maintaining the country’s security.
Houthis’ Response
A military representative of the Houthis, Yahya Sari, reported that they managed to repel the attacks of the Israeli Air Force. However, specific evidence of this was not presented. This indicates conflicting information circulating around the operation.
Previous Strikes
Earlier, on September 10, Israeli forces attacked the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, as well as the northern province of Al-Jawf. According to the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Health, 35 people were killed and more than 130 were injured as a result of that attack.
The Israeli army reported that infrastructure was attacked, including military camps and the headquarters of the Houthis’ “propaganda” department. A series of operations against the Houthis continues as tensions in the region do not subside.
In particular, on August 24, strikes were carried out on a military complex in Sanaa, where key facilities such as the presidential palace and power stations were located. The IDF also noted that these attacks were in response to incidents involving the launch of ballistic missiles and drones that occurred on August 22.
