General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) meeting on December 17, 2024 adopted a resolution A79/458/Add.3 DR IV “The human rights situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol”.

81 countries voted “for” the document, 14 “against”, 80 “abstained”.

“Against” 14 countries performed (the color of world democracy – ed.), including Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Eritrea, Iran, China, Cuba, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, North Korea, Russia, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Ukraine – “For” — supported, among others, by the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Israel, Argentina, all European countries, and other democratic countries.

Among “abstained” (neither you nor us) – Armenia, Brazil, South Africa, India, all Arab countries, others.

It is known that the adopted document became the first UN resolution in which the General Assembly calls the Russian aggression against Ukraine “a Russian war of conquest against Ukraine.”

The resolution condemns the illegal detention of Ukrainian civilians, the use of torture and torture, and discrimination against residents of temporarily occupied territories. It also aims to protect and return deported children.

According to Ukraine's representative to the UN, Serhiy Kislitsa, the resolution is aimed at protecting human rights and drawing attention to the difficult humanitarian situation.

“The international community stands firmly on the side of Ukraine and continues to support international law,”noted Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga.

    • Russia's responsibility for the blockade of Ukrainian ports and attacks on port infrastructure is noted, which negatively affects global food security.

Support for Israel: a new step in relations with Ukraine
