Israeli army operations in southern Lebanon violate resolution 1701 – UN

26 December 2024 The UN Interim Force in Lebanon expressed concern about Israeli military actions in the south of the country. They noted that this violates resolution 1701. Peacekeeping forces called on Israel to cease actions that threaten the truce and to withdraw its troops.

The statement also speaks of the need for full implementation of resolution 1701, which is the key to peace in the region. UNIFIL stressed its readiness to support both sides in fulfilling their obligations and ensuring the security of southern Lebanon from illegal armed groups.

The mission expressed its readiness to assist in the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the south of the country and called for compliance with the ceasefire. It is important that the area south of the Litani River be under the control of the Lebanese Government, as provided for in the resolution.
