After Kibbutz Nirim, the Be'eri Council expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision to hold a state ceremony to mark the anniversary of October 7. The kibbutz's press service said that the government should be looking for living abductees in the Gaza Strip, rather than celebrating the dead it did not rescue. The kibbutz demands that the government work harder to return the abductees and prevent their deaths. The Be'eri Council also asked for a state commission to be set up to investigate the October 7 tragedy.

Transport Minister Miri Regev was recently named as the person responsible for organizing the October 7 memorial ceremony. Families of the victims and abductees are opposed to the ceremony and are expressing their displeasure with the choice of Miri Regev to lead the event. Kibbutz Nirim management reported that locals do not want the ceremony to take place on their kibbutz. The ceremony's producers were called to leave the site when they arrived to prepare for filming.

Instead of holding a ceremony, the kibbutz is demanding a government commission to investigate. Nirim residents and other residents of the Western Negev insist that their lives are not a movie, and the Israeli government is not a film studio.
