Kyiv, January 10, 2026 — emergency power outages have been introduced in the capital of Ukraine following Russian missile strikes on the energy infrastructure. The city administration reported that the order for outages came from “Ukrenergo”.
Due to the situation in the city, the operation of water supply, heating, and electric transport has been temporarily suspended. Utility and energy services are working in emergency mode, simultaneously repairing damage and trying to stabilize the energy supply.
The problems did not start only this night. On January 9, power outages were already recorded in Kyiv, and according to Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, about half of the apartment buildings were left without heating.
The situation is complicated by the weather: temperatures in Kyiv and the region dropped to −10°C. Klitschko urged residents who have the opportunity to temporarily leave the city — if there are alternative sources of heat and energy in country houses.
The night attack on January 9 was one of the largest in recent times. Reports mentioned 278 aerial attack means, including 242 strike drones and 36 missiles of various types. The use of a medium-range missile “Oreshnik” in the Lviv region was also mentioned.
As a result of the strikes on Kyiv, four people were killed, and at least 24 were injured, including rescuers and medics. There was a separate report about damage to the building of the Qatar embassy.
Amid the escalation, Ukraine initiated an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. According to the updated agenda, the Security Council is to convene on Monday, January 12, to discuss the strikes on civilian infrastructure and the consequences of the attacks.
