For Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 23–24), Israeli Friends of Ukraine together with partners have joined and invite everyone to the new project Living Memory.
This is an alternative format for honoring memory, which differs from traditional ceremonies and television programs. As part of this project, a personal and emotionally enriched space will be created, where the memory of Holocaust victims becomes more tangible and real through open meetings in people’s homes.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the organization זיכרון בסלון, which has been working on the “Living Memory” tradition for many years. The idea of this format is that people not only listen, but also actively participate in preserving memory by organizing meetings, lectures, discussions, where they can hear testimonies and share their experiences.
Who is behind the project “Living Memory”?
This year, several important partners have joined the project, who, together with “זיכרון בסלון”, offer to become part of this important tradition. They are:
- Hopescrolling
- Centers for Social Justice
- Israeli Friends of Ukraine
- Point of View
They are all organizing this project together, inviting everyone who wishes to contribute to the preservation of the memory of Holocaust victims and create an atmosphere where memory becomes personal and deeply felt.
The idea of “Living Memory”
The project “Living Memory” is aimed at creating a unique space where each participant can deeply understand the tragedy of the Holocaust through personal stories and testimonies. This is not only a cultural but also an emotionally important event that allows each person to feel more deeply how crucial it is to preserve the memory of the past.
How does it work?
The “Living Memory” project is organized by people who want to create a space in their homes for meetings and discussions on the topic of the Holocaust. They can invite guests, organize discussions, lectures, or creative meetings. This allows for a deeper immersion into history and sharing of personal impressions and knowledge.
Key points of the project:
- Alternative to official ceremonies: The project offers a new, informal approach to honoring the memory of Holocaust victims.
- Engagement of a wide audience: Through open communication and active participation in discussions, the project helps preserve memory among a broad public.
- The tradition of “Living Memory”: The project collaborates with the organization “זיכרון בסלון”, which has been working with this tradition for many years.
“Living Memory” Project: Support and Cooperation
The project is supported by organizations working with people who survived the Holocaust, as well as with their families and descendants. This support helps not only to preserve historical memory but also to create a comfortable and supportive atmosphere for those who wish to participate in such initiatives.
It is important to note that this is a special event, as its organization does not require large infrastructure or mass gatherings — it is enough to open the doors of your home to allow people to feel this memory on a personal level.
Quote: “Memory that must be preserved lives in the hearts of those who are ready to pass it on” — the organizers of the project.
Structure of the project:
| Event format | Description |
|---|---|
| Testimonies | Personal stories and testimonies from people who survived the Holocaust |
| Creative Meetings | Literary evenings, creative workshops |
| Discussions | Discussions of historical events and their impact on the present |
| Lectures | Historical lectures and presentations |
The “Living Memory” project is an important initiative that gives everyone the opportunity to join in preserving the memory of Holocaust victims, support mutual understanding between Ukraine and Israel, and unite our efforts in the fight for truth and memory. This is a significant step toward ensuring that the most important historical lessons are not forgotten and passed on to future generations.
