Strategic Affairs Secretary Ron Dermer made a secret visit to Russia last week. His visit may be related to Israeli efforts to achieve a truce in Lebanon. Russia plays a significant role in Syria, and its help in reaching a diplomatic agreement between Israel and Hezbollah could be a key part of the deal.

On October 24, the Russian delegation visited Israel. The visit was not related to hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The head of Hezbollah, Naim Kassem, said that only developments on the battlefield will lead to the end of hostilities between the group and the Israeli military.

Kassem expressed the belief that political action will not lead to an end to the long conflict, and the main solution lies on the battlefield. He declared his readiness for indirect negotiations through the Lebanese state only if Israeli attacks on Lebanon ceased.
