An Israeli delegation led by the director of the Mossad foreign intelligence service has visited Egypt in an attempt to advance talks on a possible truce in the Gaza Strip.

Saturday's visit included continued talks on a cease-fire agreement that could lead to the release of some hostages held by Hamas militants.

The delegation returned to Israel later that day, one of the people said, without providing details about the outcome of the talks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not comment on the trip, and Egyptian officials, which is mediating the talks, also declined to comment. Netanyahu's office said Friday that differences between Israel and Hamas over the terms of a cease-fire remain.
