The oldest inscription stating that “Jesus is God” was found under the floor of the Megiddo prison, near the site of the Battle of Armageddon in Israel. This is considered a very significant discovery, comparable to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. An ancient mosaic found by a prisoner shows an inscription in Greek that reads: “God-loving Aceptus brought a table to God Jesus Christ as a keepsake.” The 54 square meter mosaic was placed in the first prayer hall in 230.

This art from Megiddo Prison is now in the Museum of the Bible in Washington. The museum's general director, Carlos Campo, calls the mosaic “the greatest discovery since the Dead Sea Scrolls” and emphasizes its importance for the study of the early Christian church. The mosaic depicts a fish, an early symbol of Christianity, and five female names, demonstrating the important role of women in the Christian community.

The name of the Roman officer Gaianus, who paid for the creation of the mosaic, is also mentioned on this work of art. Archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority spent four years excavating to restore this mosaic floor. The IAA's conservation department cleaned, stabilized and restored the mosaic for display in the US. After the exhibition ends, the mosaic will return to Israel and be placed back where it was discovered.
